STREET CATS

Cats that scrape by on streets are daily threatened due to cars running over them o being affected by diseases that reduce their life expectancy. These felines, moreover, evolve without human contact, which makes impossible their introduction to a foster home or centre.

In light of this situation, our shelter with volunteers’ help daily feeds and controls 82 cats colonies in Mataró: we feed, capture, sterilize and help them when their life is in danger.

Our program of street cats control aims to reduce the excessive proliferation problem of these animals due to domestic cats abandonment and street-born cats.

Year after year, these animals multiply and form urban colonies that endanger public health and neighbour coexistence. Our work means controlling these cats focusing on sterilization and sanitary control of these colonies. Thanks to sterilization, we manage to keep a steady population in each colony.

We work so that the life quality of these animals is as optimal as possible.

Procedure (CER)

  • First contact with the colony to be controlled and its feeders.
  • Capture strategy with the collaboration —if possible— of the feeders of the colony.
  • Capture of the animals.
  • Sterilization of captured cats.
  • Return to the corresponding colony.
  • At the same time, we look after the food of the cats in the colonies and their health and environment, by maintaining sanitary control of both the space and the individuals that make up the colony.
