A week we will never forget

Dear friends,

On September 22 we experienced one of the most intense situations we can remember. Following the eviction of an illegal camp in an agricultural area of Mataró, more than 40 dogs and nearly 20 cats arrived to us in a single day.

Many of these animals have families waiting to be reunited with them. Others will probably become a permanent part of our big family. In the meantime, they all need veterinary care, food, attention and affection.

Added to this is another challenge: the numerous cat colonies in the area, which until now lived freely, being fed but without sterilisation or control. Now, they too need care and monitoring to ensure their wellbeing.

We are aware that we are not alone. The City Council of Mataró, through the Animal Welfare Office, has offered extraordinary support to face part of this situation. And we know that behind us there is a community that has always been sensitive and supportive.

It may not be easy to imagine what it means to welcome and care for more than sixty animals at once: the noise, the energy, the organisational stress… but also the grateful looks, the wagging tails, the cats purring as they rest peacefully for the first time.

Every gesture, every show of solidarity, every thought shared with us in these moments makes the burden lighter and the work more hopeful.

Thank you for being there. Always.
