Thank you for your interest in adopting a cat from our shelter. At this time, we must inform you that we are facing a delicate health situation in our cat areas (both at the clinic on Carrer Sant Cugat 102 in Mataró and in the catteries of our shelters in Cal Pilé and Cabrils):
• At the Sant Cugat clinic, there is an alert for fungal infections, especially among kittens, and we have also detected cases of feline panleukopenia. For this reason, if you are considering adopting a kitten, we recommend that you do not have other animals at home, in order to reduce the risk of transmission. However, if you are willing to follow all hygiene protocols required for treating fungal infections and can act with great care, you may visit the kittens. We ask for your full responsibility.
• Additionally, we are on alert for feline panleukopenia in both the Cal Pilé and Cabrils shelters. This year, the virus has appeared in its most dangerous variant—the silent form. Some cats have shown no symptoms, while others have developed the disease quickly, with fatal consequences. As a preventive measure, we are currently limiting adoptions to families who do not have other cats, to avoid potential contagion in cases where an infected animal shows no symptoms.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee at this time that a cat is not carrying the disease, nor that they will be able to recover if they develop it.
We sincerely appreciate your understanding and your willingness to adopt. We work every day to protect our animals and ensure safe adoptions for everyone.
